There are four user roles: Public, Member, Owner, Admin.

Public: everyone who visits the sight and is not signed up.

Member: someone who has registered and activated an account on the system. Required to access member lists and profiles, add resources, endorse a project, and to create a Project.

Owner: a member who has an approved project (see project levels below) on the system. This member serves as the project’s contact, and maintainer. The owner controls who may join the project’s group of supporters, what resources may be requested and added (a member offers the project a resource, approval will be automatic and the owner may choose to remove it. An owner is really just a member who has admin rights to his/her own projects.

Admin: The site’s maintainer. May add/delete anything, e.g. any member, any project, any comment, etc. on the site. There is only one Admin account--though should the need arise, another, junior level account might be incorporated. The admin will have the same interface as other users, only with certain features enabled that no other user can see. There will also be a site-management page where the admin can: find one portal to manage users and their attributes, manage projects and their attributes (including blog posts, comments, etc.) and manage the homepage. They also requested the ability to perform backups of the database, restore a backed up database.

Search: Anyone can search for projects, but you can only search for members if you are logged in.

Help: a clear help option that has a javascript pop up that explains the page and what one can do on it—for those who don’t get it. (preferably a bubble, not a new window, unless JS is turned off. akin in look to tooltips.)

Site Administrators can show/hide, change count, and manage the homepage modules
